Outdoor space is a hot commodity in today’s current market. If you own a home with usable outdoor space, outfitting your lawn with a composite deck could make for a worthwhile investment! Composite decking is a great material for someone looking to have the outdoor space of their dreams that requires less maintenance and is weather resistant.

In Arkansas, we are no strangers to rain, hot and humid summers, and ice and snow. These conditions are unfavorable for wood decks, and require replacing at least every 10 years. This can lead to frustration, and quite an expensive headache.

That’s why at Permasteel, we recommend composite decking due to its weather resistant capabilities that save our customers time and money.

The Weatherproof Decking Benefits of Composite Decking

Composite decking is an environmentally friendly decking material. At Permasteel, we utilize Trex composite decking. Trex is the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking, and like other composite decking material, it is made from recycled materials!

Composite decking materials are UV resistant, and absorb less heat on sunny days than traditional wood decks.

Composite decking’s UV-resistance makes these decks less prone to fading, and less likely to mold due to wet weather and wet climates. If you live at or near sea level, this is a huge plus. This is because of composite decking’s low absorption rate. Unlike wood, composite material will absorb and hold less water, making it less likely to house insects, and resistant to warping and rotting. Additionally, composite decking does not expand and contract in colder climates as much as wood does!

Due to the materials makeup of recycled products, your deck will be slip resistant, making it safer to walk on in the rain, or after a splash.

It’s because of these qualities that composite decking makes for a low-maintenance, cost effective investment. Since your deck will be weather resistant, it will be less likely to warp, fade, splinter, and will be an uncomfy home for insects.

Composite decking material from Trex on average is $9 – $16 per square foot, while wood deck materials will cost you on average $10-$20 per square foot. With the pricing being similar for materials, the biggest difference in cost is due to the difference in longevity. A wood deck on average will last about 10 years depending on treatment and amount of maintenance of the wood. A composite deck will last on average up to 20 years with a proper maintenance schedule. At Permasteel, we offer a fifty-year product warranty, ensuring that your composite deck lasts as long as possible!
